Back in July of 2010 the Mpls Mirror did a story “Seizure of drugs in South Minneapolis” where 1.5 kilos of cocaine, more than 500 pounds of marijuana and assorted firearms had been seized from three different homes.
The gangs involved where the Latin Kings, Sureno 13 and the Native Mob.
When word started coming out yesterday morning January 25th, about the prison lockdown and the secrecy at the time to which gang affiliation it was, I thought for sure it would come out as Latino related. I must say I was surprised when they mentioned the Native Mob.
I had noticed this past summer the tagging of Native Mob on properties popping up on occasion, but it was not enough to worry me as it was far and few. The Latino tagging is more alarming as they have been persistent for years.
It reminded me of what was told to me while nosing around the street a couple of years ago while inquiring about rumours that the Native mob were trying to recruit Latino gang members. I was corrected very quickly stating that the Latinos “did not need dirty Indians, or n…..”. They needed them.
After yesterday’s announcement I had to ask myself why I have never read a damn thing in mainstream media about the Native Mob or the Latino gangs? They have no problem attaching gang affiliation whether it true or not to African Americans keeping the stigma alive.
While many blame black Chicago transplants to bringing the problems that occur here to Minneapolis, I have to ask myself do you thing the Mexicans left there problems and violence at the border?
While we choose some of the poorest, troubled cultures to focus on, I have to ask who are the real heavy’s behind what is going on? We may never know, as some people are protected, and others don’t have a prayer.
